  • In the wake of the Third Reich, a series of features emerged from various countries that excoriated Nazi atrocities; four of those pictures appear in this box set. First on the bill is German director Wolfgang Staudte's 1946 THE MURDERERS ARE AMONG US, starring Hildegarde Neff and Wilhelm Borchert in what became the first feature produced in postwar Germany. It tells of a doctor who committed heinous acts in a concentration camp, struggling to come to terms with his overwhelming guilt. Next up is 1961's THE GLEIWITZ CASE, from director Gerhard Klein, an East German docudrama about the Nazis' decision to fake an attack on a German radio station in order to justify the 1939 invasion of Poland. Also in the set is Konrad Wolf's I WAS NINETEEN (1967), an episodic chronicle of the Nazis' final days, filtered through the director's own recollections of teenage life. Finally, Frank Beyer's 1963 NAKED AMONG WOLVES toplines Armin Mueller-Stahl (MUSIC BOX) in a dramatic recreation of Holocaust evils carried out inside of Nazi concentration camps.
