EVIL CULT: This kung fu fantasy has a circuitous plot, adapted from a story by Yin Jong, and boasts such delirious developments as kung-fu cannibals, evil nuns, invincible heroes, and killer autoharps. Li plays Mo Kei, a young man born into the conflict between two warring factions who are each trying to obtain the To Lung and the Yee Tin, two swords which, when possessed by the same owner, will render that person the Supreme Master of Martial Arts. Featuring fantastic images--such as an old kung fu wizard who occupies a giant living sphere--and amazing wire battle scenes, KUNG FU MASTER is an often confusing, exhilarating, and entertaining movie.
DR. WAI AND THE SCRIPTURE WITHOUT WORDS: A pulp serial author with numerous personal problems, including a serious case of writer's block, temporarily escapes reality by living vicariously through one of his lead characters in a tale about a quest for a mythical scripture. This story within a story has Li (LETHAL WEAPON 4, ROMEO MUST DIE, BLACK MASK) up against an enormous mutant marsupial, Japanese sumo wrestlers, and ninjas, although the pen turns out to be mightier than the sword (or metal grill, as it were) in this film by famed director Siu-Tung Ching (A CHINESE GHOST STORY, SWORDSMAN, EXECUTIONERS.)
Also included are early Li outing LEGEND OF KUNG FU HERO, and the documentary LEE-THAL WEAPON.
