While American forms aren't usually their strong suit, ARC Records have made a few decent inroads with Cajun and zydeco music. Here, they take on bluegrass. Some of the bigger names are present, with Bla Fleck opening up the album and Don Reno nearby, David Grisman toward the end, and Lester Flatt in the middle. In between is a huge number of other artists, both well known and unknown. The album moves through all of the major ends of the genre, with fiddlers, banjo players, and mandolin players all taking turns. High-speed breakdowns, long and soulful ballads, and dances between the extremes are all performed along the way. With the diversity of performances here, highlights will depend on the tastes of the listener. Fans at any point of the spectrum will have something to hear here, whether fast, slow, virtuosic, or even sloppy. ~ Adam Greenberg
