This ex-Screaming Tree drummer exquisitely continued his second life as a brooding alt-country miscreant on CODY'S DREAM, Mark Pickerel's sophomore release for Bloodshot Records. Reportedly inspired by a long road trip through the American south sans a functioning stereo, CODY'S DREAM finds Pickerel combing through the noir side of roots music with spacious, eerie soundscapes that genre-hop with sensual ease. Pickerel's deep voice croaks and croons in equal measure and is this stark etching's primary contour.

  • Critic Reviews
No Depression (p.76) - "The dark-voiced Pickerel is an interesting, thoughtful lyricist; he's surrounded by top-notch players...and his songs are usually fully realized, with unexpected curves and turns."
Harp (magazine) (p.116) - "Pickerel's a hopeless romantic with flawless tastes and an uncanny knack for combining his influences..."
