Possessed of a smooth and powerful "new traditionalist" singing style that often recalls the much-revered pipes of George Strait and Randy Travis, Craig Morgan delivers an album full of good-natured homespun country seemingly in stark opposition to his former career as an elite U.S. Army commando and paratrooper. Amid gently sawing fiddles and strumming acoustic guitars, the vocalist straightforwardly professes his love for his old hometown, traditional values, and the girl next door. Morgan, who wrote or co-wrote six of the 11 songs, has an eye for plainspoken but vivid detail, which often gives the album the feel of a Garrison Keillor or Tom T. Hall-style travelogue. On the more serious-themed songs, the singer is equally at home with his subject, projecting a confidence and natural warmth usually only found in much more experienced artists.
