Michael Peterson plays roadhouse country music, the kind of kick-up-your-heels, Friday night stuff that keeps a large segment of Middle America from going out of their collective minds. The themes are basic enough: in "Love's Great," it's "let's take a chance at romance while we've got one." "Drink Swear Steal and Lie" has the singer weighing his father's advice about walking the straight and narrow in love and life against his desire for a dangerously tempting honky tonk angel. Peterson has a good range and a fine, full-throated country holler of a voice. He also has the good sense to surround himself with some fine musicians. This disc has some sparkling slide guitar work, and all the tunes are tight, smartly-arranged examples of good ol' rockin' country. An enjoyable effort all around.
Critic Reviews
