Iceland's Mugison may be considered a modern-day Frank Zappa. This one-man band boasts an eclectic style that ranges from blues-based alternative rock to stoner, doom-metal sludgery. At times, MUGIBOOGIE bears a resemblance to quirky, Beck-like fringe rock; at others, it veers off to Mr. Bungle's sanitarium-styled schizo-metal, all of it draped in a soul-funky exterior. With a vocal style that sounds like a strait-jacketed Steven Tyler, Mugison's brilliant musicianship tries to contain the manic psychodrama within. It's simply amazing that all this cacophony originates from the mind of one person.

  • Critic Reviews
Spin (p.104) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "The irreverent electro rocker, no stranger to smirking puns and helter-skelter noise, marks a straighter course with MUGIBOOGIE's ramshackle rock and Plastic Ono Band snarls."
Paste (magazine) (p.73) - "Heavy-metal screams round off into blues sneers over crispy-fried guitars, with the kind of spazzy rabidity that's synonymous with Ipecac label head Mike Patton."
Clash (magazine) (p.125) - "[A]n invigorating, eclectic listen. From the opening swampy stomp, MUGIBOOGIE thumps hard with seriously crunching guitars, topped by Mugison's unique death howl."
