Static is Berlin musician Hanno Leichtmann, who has worked with Lali Puna and To Rococo Rot. The latter's Ronald Lippok contributes vocals here on the album-opening "The Return of She," whose graceful, swaying rhythm sets the tone for the rest of the album. The stately "Never Never" is a resurrected song from the Assembly, the ex-Depeche Mode mastermind Vince Clarke's brief early-1980s project, while the wittily named "One After 808" is an instrumental tribute to the little drum machine that could, and the pastel-shaded "Colours in Patches" meanders slowly, like a sun-dappled stream.
