  • As originally created by Leonard Freeman, the CBS detective series HAWAII FIVE-O debuted in September 1968 and ran for a stunning 12 seasons, before finally wrapping in April 1980. This made it not only one of the most popular programs of the 1970s, but a veritable staple of prime time for many years. Jack Lord starred as Detective Steve McGarrett, an employee of the Hawaiian State Police stationed at the lavish Iolani Palace in downtown Honolulu. Cool, unemotional and detached, McGarrett spent his days solving baffling Hawaii-set crimes and fighting the operatives of the seedy Hawaiian underworld, who were fronted by the seemingly unstoppable criminal mastermind Wo Fat (Khigh Dhiegh). Assisting Steve were Detective Danny Williams (James MacArthur and Detective Chin Ho Kelly (Kam Fong). This massive, 55-disc box set from Paramount caters to established fans of the series by presenting all 281 episodes, back to back, as they originally aired on network television.
