  • Although zoologists have spent decades acknowledging the critical importance of "moments of impact" in the natural world - those exact instances when animals make physical contact with one another and the environment that surrounds them - the nuances of these moments remained elusive and difficult to pinpoint for many years. Such was the case until cutting-edge cinematographic technology (which helped slow down various animal behaviors on film) intersected with the knowledge and data gleaned from advanced bioengineering studies. This two-part documentary special takes advantage of the insights culled from both areas, with two episodes that observe and interpret the nuances of animal behavior. PROGRAM 1: HUNTERS AND HERDS travels to the grasslands and savannah that occupy all of Earth's continents save Antarctica, and observes the fight for survival of many indigenous species, who must struggle against dangers including drought, fire, the absence of food, and the presence of various natural predators. PROGRAM 2: JUNGLE travels to the world's jungles, which serve as the home to a significant portion of life on Earth. The film provides an insight into the behavior of some of the amazing creatures that inhabit the jungle realm, including flying snakes and ninja ants, by cinematographically penetrating the external layers of these creatures and observing the bioengineering that lies beneath.
