  • In the 1940s, Frank Capra's WHY WE FIGHT series wasn't the only WWII-themed documentary program to emerge from top-tiered studio talent; several smaller individual films also graced movie screens. Five of them appear in this collection. The 1943 Oscar-nominated effort REPORT FROM THE ALEUTIANS finds father-and-son Walter and John Huston co-narrating a chronicle of military events that unfolded on the Aleutian Islands, while a bonus short, HOOK DOWN, WHEELS DOWN, tells of the USN's highly-praised and versatile 'floating airfields': its aircraft carriers. As helmed by Oscar winner WILLIAM WYLER (MRS. MINIVER, THE COLLECTOR), and narrated by Lieutenant Robert Taylor, THE FIGHTING LADY depicts events occurring in U.S. Navy combat zones. COMBAT AMERICA is narrated by the legendary Clark Gable, and offers a tour of the 351st Bombardment Group (H)AAF at its British air base. And finally, the documentary THUNDERBOLT, co-directed by John Sturges and William Wyler, chronicles the U.S. Army Air Force's P-47 Thunderbold Fighter Bomber.
