On its first outing for Fat Wreck Chords, 2006's DEAD FM, the Richmond, Virginia-based hardcore band Strike Anywhere launches a fierce aural attack on social and political injustice. Led by outspoken, sandpaper-voiced frontman Thomas Barnett, the ensemble specializes in lightning-fast, left-leaning anthems such as "Prisoner Echoes" and "The Promise," with its progressive messages backed by surging guitar lines and a propulsive rhythm section. These qualities, combined with a notable knack for melody (see the chorus of the uplifting "Two Thousand Voices"), result in an overall sound that places the group outside the crowded circle of its emo peers and in the esteemed company of precursors such as Bad Religion and 7 Seconds.
Critic Reviews
Alternative Press (p.196) - "Resolute and gritty, DEAD FM also delivers what is by far the strongest performance yet from vocalist Thomas Barnett..."
Kerrang (Magazine) (p.47) - "Their knack for writing compulsively sing-along-able refrains remains intact..."
