Horror-obsessed doesn't even begin to characterize Yonkers, New York, death metal terrorists Mortician. Unable to find a drummer that could play at the skin-flaying speed they needed, they started using a drum machine shortly before recording these two early EPs, creating an alienating, thoroughly inhuman sound. The songs on this collection, all studded with ominous gore-movie sound bites, are dark tunnels of punishing mechanical beats, power drill guitars, and demonic, throaty growls, like a construction project within a heavily populated level of hell. It's a lot to take, but the mercifully brief songs hit hard and fast.
