    Though this enthusiastically rocking quartet's third album is full of surging riffs and pounding rhythms that owe a debt to Nirvana, Soundgarden, etc., Oleander is not just a one-trick pony. Even a cursory listen makes it clear that melodic ballads and carefully constructed arrangements are also part of the Oleander template.
    Songs such as the opener "Come to Stay" and the powerful title cut are full of energy, angst, and power chords, but "Tightrope" and the jangly, acoustic guitar-based "Champion" are closer in spirit and approach to Third Eye Blind or Tonic than to the aforementioned grunge forebears. This chameleon quality might distance Oleander from tunnel-vision hard rockers, but it's certainly endeared them to radio and to their sizable contingent of fans.
