Duckie Simpson founded his first freedom group (Uhuru means freedom) in 1975, with little success. When the brilliant music doctors Sly And Robbie became involved, Uhuru's fortunes changed. Most of the cuts on this excellent collection are produced by the dynamic duo, and it shows. That they are such a crucial part of Black Uhuru is a testament to their ability to change the shape and sound of everything they touch. Overwhelmingly good are 'Happiness', 'Push Push' and 'World Is Africa', but the most powerful song in the catalogue is 'Youth Of Eglington'. They observed the troubled times of racial disharmony in Brixton better than most.
