Like the early-2007 Trojan compilation by Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood (JONNY GREENWOOD IS THE CONTROLLER), FURRY SELECTION finds another member of a lauded U.K. rock act--in this case, Super Furry Animals bassist Guto Pryce--crafting a savvy mix out of vintage reggae tracks. Pryce clearly knows his way around the Trojan catalogue, as the Welsh artist is more than capable of blending under-the-radar gems (see Susan Cadogan's cooing "Do It Baby") with well-known tunes (Bob Marley & the Wailers' swaying "Kaya"). Given the collection's 1970s focus, it is no surprise that many of these tracks (including the aforementioned songs) feature the spaced-out production of Jamaican legend Lee "Scratch" Perry. Scratch himself even turns up on vocals for the dubby "Curly Locks," yet another example of Pryce's fine taste in classic reggae.
