The Sao Paulo band 3 Na Massa's self-titled album can best be described as tropical film noir. Bringing together both samba and '50s/'60s-era sounds, 3 NA MASSA boasts a roster of femme fatale vocalists, all of whom possess a smooth Astrud Gilberto-esque style. "Certeza" starts it all off on a jazzy note; the album then eases smoothly into a spacey retro vibe that takes the listener to another place and time in songs like "Tatui" (vocals by Karine Calvalho). Another highlight, "Morada Boa," combines oboes and bongos, creating a distinctive sound that sets this group apart from most Brazilian-based bands.
