Winner of the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Native American Music Album, BEYOND THE RAVEN MOON showcases Mary Youngblood's always innovative, often haunting flute work. Though tracks such as the doleful "Dream with Me" and "Within My Heart" are straightforward Native compositions, MOON also proves how fluidly Native American music has merged with other forms.
From the gentle, jazzy shuffle of "Walk with Me," to the Celtic flute strains of the title track, Youngblood and her band mates manage to slip in and out of genres without losing their Native spirit, and doubtless attracting an ever-wider audience.
Critic Reviews
NAPRA Review (05-06/02, p.77) - "...Half Alaskan Aleut and half Florida Seminole, Youngblood blends traditional sounds with contemporary touches and features strong harmonizing alongside the many flutes in her compositions....Beautiful pieces, exquisitely rendered..."
