Recorded live at the WDR Funkhaus, Cologne & the Rheinisches Musikfest, Dusseldorf, Germany in June, 1984. Includes liner notes by Birger Gesthuisen.
"Turkish jazz" is a particularly successful and particularly little-known fusion: successful because so much Turkish music uses wind instruments whose role can easily be switched to jazz horns. The phenomenal clarinetist Kandirali seamlessly blends Turkish traditional reed playing with jazz in a style less overtly fusionist than most Turkish jazz, which by me works better. This super CD, which mixes studio cuts with a concert performance, pairs him with an equally powerful saz player and percussion in a set that is frankly gorgeous. (62:36) ~ John Storm Roberts
