Recorded in Matanzas and Havana City, Cuba between September 11, 1983 and Novermber 20, 1984. Includes liner notes by Dr. Olavo Alen Rodriguez.
Since the fine Areito Afro-Cuban percussion LPs vanished, there's been a drought in this field, so this useful collection of Oru (liturgies) -- different from the Areito series -- is specially welcome. It opens with what is essentially a series of demonstration rhythms, but once percussion and vocals are integrated, things warm up in fairly lengthy invocations of Shango and of "all the saints." ~ John Storm Roberts, Original Music
