This live performance, by two of the most beloved and respected Irish folk musicians, embodies the true spirit of this traditional genre. In their own words, "It would be utterly impossible to capture all the excitement, color, smell and exhilarating aura of our concert tour in Ireland in the summer of 1977." However, this 15-song CD does give us a joyous glimpse of the music of these two folk icons. Moreover, with all of the humorous banter heard in between songs, we get a good idea of these two singers' unique personalities and incredible stage charisma.
THE MAKEM & CLANCY CONCERT features a varied program. Old songs such as "O'Dunnell Abu," "The Rocky Road to Dublin," and "The Cobbler" are heard here. In addition, newer material, "The 200 Year Old Alcoholic" and "The Rambles of Spring" show the song writing skill of Makem and Clancy respectively. Finally, we hear Liam Clancy recite Baudelaire's famous prose poem that begins, "Be always drunken."
