    The Brazilian rock scene, so successful in the '80s, suffered a heavy backlash in the early '90s when it fell out of fashion and the mainstream public turned their attention to other music styles and Cazuza fell victim to AIDS and some of the most famous rock groups were disbanded. Legiao Urbana, however, survived and in 1991 released V, their fifth and musically most diverse album. And in spite of the harsh climate for Brazilian rock, V was also a big commercial success. The both lyrically and melodically exquisite "Vento No Litoral" is the melancholic highlight of the album. The nine-minute long and majestic "Metal Contra as Nuvens" also stands out. The sweet "O Mundo Anda Tao Complicado," with excellent, uplifting lyrics about seeing the joy and beauty of an ordinary weekend, is a light contrast on an otherwise rather dense and melancholic album. ~ Philip Jandovsky
