Dizzy Gillespie goes Hollywood? Yes, this set, originally released in the early 1960s, has a commercial hook, namely theme songs from that period's most popular movies (PICNIC, DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES, etc.). But this particular band is virtually without peer among Dizzy's `60s groups, as its members included James Moody on tenor sax and Kenny Barron, one of the classiest pianist ever to grace the music. Gillespie's own playing sparkles with inspiration, the compositions are durable and/or excellent, and the skillful arrangements by trombonist Billy Byers add to the luster.
