    Liner Note Author: Helen Mayhew.
Famed jazz label Blue Note Records was started by Alfred Lion in 1938, and a year later Lion's friend and fellow jazz fan Frank Wolff joined him, and the pair built up a priceless and legendary catalog just as bop and hard bop were taking wing. This two-disc, 27-track set features a wide range of the artists and classics that first appeared on Blue Note, and it includes such modern jazz classics as Thelonious Monk's "'Round Midnight," Horace Silver's "Song for My Father," Lee Morgan's "The Sidewinder," and John Coltrane's "Blue Train," among many other releases from this historic and important label. ~ Steve Leggett
