Legendary Sidney Bechet: Petite Fleur compiles tracks recorded by the storied New Orleans soprano sax and clarinet player. Recorded in New York, Chicago, and France, these are earthy, swinging, and bluesy tracks that feature the influential Bechet just coming out of his most obscure period of the '30s to greater acclaim in the late '40s and '50s. Featured alongside Bechet are such luminaries as trumpeters Tommy Ladnier, Rex Stewart, and Harry "Red" Allen, as well as pianists Jelly Roll Morton, Earl Hines, Willie "The Lion" Smith, bassist Wellman Braud, drummer Sidney Catlett, and others. Also included are the two "one-man band" recordings Bechet made in which he overdubbed himself playing all of the instruments. ~ Matt Collar
