By 2007 Hector Martignon was more than an up-and-coming pianist on the Latin jazz scene: he was an established force to be reckoned with. For REFUGEE, Martignon recruited a rotating cast of musicians (whom he recorded with in four distinct sessions) and laid down two standards and a handful of originals with remarkable results. With a style that draws on various strains of Latin jazz, including Brazilian and Afro-Cuban styles, Martignon conjures a kinetic power on REFUGEE, one that will most certainly further cement his reputation.
