Other Dimensions In Music is a unit composed of master musicians which always deals with fully unscripted improvisation. Over the course of 15-plus years of playing together, ODIM have become masters as well at conjuring the living organism of procreative music that is brought into existence through the simultaneous listening to, and feeding of, the whole.
Here joined by pianist Matthew Shipp, the available tonal template is made even wider. On track three, a quiet exchange of arco bass, drums, flute, and inside-the-piano plucking gives way to the driving propulsion of track four, led by trumpet and pizzicato bass, and fleshed out with block chords on piano and a bass drum pulse. This continuous hour-long live performance is indexed with seven IDs, highlighting the variance of mood and texture in the divine essence of sound created by the group.
