  • Freddie Hubbard was a major force in defining the Blue Note sound with his participation on such experimental albums as Ornette Coleman's Free Jazz and John Coletrane's Ascension, his style showcasing his imagination and a clean technique. This DVD is a live recording of Hubbard at his best, leading an all-star quartet at the legendary New York jazz venue the Village Vanguard; Ron Carter plays bass, Cedar Walton is on piano, and Lenny White is on drums, and they play a set of four extended compositions, each written by a different player. The DVD also includes interviews with well-known club owner and jazz enthusiast Max Gordon, jazz critic Gary Giddins, as well as members of the band.
