Andy Williams had numerous million-seller LPs through the 1960s. His warm and steady voice slows down the hectic pace of the world and mellows one's soul. The album LONELY STREET creates, through its selections and Williams' even emotions, an hour of soft moods.
Williams, an artist who appreciates contemporary composers, pays homage to older standards in this collection. His feathery baritone creates lush renditions of "When Your Lover Has Gone" and "Say it Isn't So." Devoid of the dynamics of his jazz contemporaries, these tracks form an homogenous harmony. Yet Williams gives us a full plate of variety as he sings with a deliberation that gives the country tune "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" an unspoken yet implied drawl, and imparts "Unchained Melody" with satin-lined soul.
