It's obvious upon listening to CONTACT that Vath has boned up on Kraftwerk (not to mention new millennium electro) big-time. Gone gone gone are the stiff techno-trance workouts of past albums: instead, Vath's wised-up, lightened-up and rigged both his and his collaborators' synthesizers on warp drive to buzz the stars away. The amazing "Ydolem" could be a slab of techno-pop straight outta the Gary Numan or Autobahn boys' songbook, with its reams of spunky beatboxes, whizzing, buzzing and steely Moog/ARP combos. "Your Sweat" finds Vath working a motherlode of a monolithic groove with help from top-notch techno tactician Johannes Heil: it's as good as anything Mille Plateaux/Force Inc have released in 2000. Vath's vocals are sprinkled mischievously over a dense, bunsen-burner backbeat, while ancient analog devices drive great sequencers of electronics across the tarmac. CONTACT: the best thing Vath's done thus far? A contender, to be sure.

Alternative Press (7/00, p.78) - 4 out of 5 - "...Drawing on VSth's long history with German minimalist techno and trance, CONATCT dips through evenly paced beats, space-age blips and bleeps, and the occasional growled vocal....a fairly dark affair..."
Mixmag (5/00, p.166) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...He's roughing up techno's pristine edges with irreverent energy. Packed with bubbling bass and Space Invader bleeps, it's affectionately retro and slyly comedy..."
CMJ (4/24/00, p.29) - "...This album's gorgeous atmospheric melodies collide with gritty audio backwash as robotic electro beats, ultra-synthetic melodies and vocoder-enhanced vocals collide with lush, yet menacing techno-trance assaults."
    NME (Magazine) (4/8/00, p.35) - 7 out of 10 - "...Super-smooth bleep-based wallpaper for aging ravers..."
