Cincinnati-bred hip-hop DJ/producer Boom Bip (Bryan Hollon) has garnered serious underground attention for his eclectic sample salvaging and offbeat scratch-mix style--a unique take on beat-making that Radio One DJ and tastemaker John Peel compared to a "modern day Captain Beefheart." While acceptance from the hip-hop cognoscenti remained elusive, a high-profile deal in 2002 with Lex Records, U.K.-based specialists of abstract beats, held Boom Bip in good stead with the IDM crowd. CORYMB, an odds-and-sods remix compilation, offers imaginative reworks encompassing everything from gauzy, lo-fi drones to pretzel logic beat reconstruction from friends, associates, and collaborators such as Four Tet, Lali Puna, and Boards of Canada.

Mojo (Publisher) (p.113) - 4 stars out of 5 - "[A] strangely satisfying mish-mash of new songs, Peel session versions and sympathetic remixes by the likes of Mogwai and Four Tet is the perfect introduction to Boom Bip's singular talent."
