A rather bland Northern Soul collection with only a handful of stellar performances out of the 25-tracks. Two selections from B. J. Thomas "I Don't Have A Mind Of My Own" and Ronnie Milsap's "Ain't No Soul (Left In These Old Shoes)," get soulful treatments from the blue eye soul singers. Jack Montgomery, unfamiliar to most (he only cut a handful of 45's) does "Do You Believe It"; the soulful Detroit singer never got a smidgen of recognition in the States. Strangely includes, the Esquires' "Get On Up" a successful record that's not traditional Northern Soul, and The Chart's doo wopish "Desiree." This compilation is hard to get into, too many weak spots. Also contains Pop/R&B tracks by Leslie Uggams," Eartha Kitt, and an obscure Shirelles' tune "Last Minute Miracle." ~ Andrew Hamilton
