Though the idea of Todd Terry moving from his garage/house foundation into the realm of electronica and drum'n'bass necessitates quite a jump in the minds of mainstream dance fans, Resolutions isn't as radical a change of direction as some might fear. Yes, the album includes by far the darkest material Terry has ever recorded, much closer to Grooverider than Masters at Work. Even amidst the breakbeats and laser-sharp effects, Terry's ineffable production style comes through again and again -- from the trademark vocal bridge on "Let It Ride" to the infectious drumrush on "Blackout," this is a Todd Terry album without a doubt. For a producer who'd arguably been doing very similar material for several years (albeit great sounding material), Resolutions is an excellent album, one that can bring his old fans back into the fold even while it generates an entirely new audience barely old enough to remember his most innovative tracks. ~ John Bush

  • Critic Reviews
Mixmag (5/99, p.147) - 5 out of 5 - "...displays Todd Terry's razor sharp understanding of the breaks of underground....Make no mistake, RESOLUTIONS is essential..."
CMJ (6/28/99, p.28) - "...Rather than coasting on sternum-shaking beats, Terry opts for sly, visionary breakbeats and assorted textural grooves, thumps and samples, suggesting that the dancefloor isn't the only house he's set on rocking..."
New Music Monthly (7/99, p.59) - "...[Terry] puts on quite a show, pulling nearly every electronic sub-genre out of a hat from hard-charging garage to sharp-edged, jazzy drum 'n' bass....a masterful demonstration of music's ability to challenge the senses while exuding a radiant glow."
