Swapping his earlier African and reggae influences for a more funk-led sound, TSOL is the third album from Kenyan-Canadian rapper Shadrach Kabango. Produced by the likes of DJ T Lo, Classified, and Ric Notes, the 2010 follow-up to The Old Prince features 13 socially conscious hip-hop tracks that draw comparisons with the likes of Common and Talib Kweli. Featuring the singles "Rose Garden," "We, Myself, and I," and "Yaa I Get It," his second release through Black Box Recordings also includes collaborations with singer/songwriter Justin Nozuka, Reverie Sound Revue lead vocalist Lisa Lobsinger, and Broken Social Scene's Brendan Canning. ~ Jon O'Brien
Critic Reviews
Alternative Press (p.116) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "It combines a deep love of language, hip-hop and tongue-in-cheek pop-culture references to create some stirring old-school jams..."
