Scottish teen idols the Bay City Rollers, at their best, managed to fuse a bubblegum fan base, a hint of disco, and just enough fun rock & roll to stay regularly on the charts in the mid-'70s, and if they generated more hype than substance in the long run, they were never aiming for much more than the charts anyway. This set collects the group's debut album, 1975's Rollin' (that was the title of the U.K. version -- it was released in the U.S. with a slightly altered running order as The Bay City Rollers, and that's the version presented here), and pairs it with 1976's Rock N' Roll Love Letter to make a pretty decent glimpse of this energetic group's allure for teenage girls in the middle of the disco era. ~ Steve Leggett
