Singer-songwriter Tommy Keene has been releasing smart, well-crafted albums of excellent pop-rock since the early 1980s, and 2006's CRASHING THE ETHER continues that trend. In fact, with its superb songcraft, layered and polished production, and perfect mix of rock muscle and melodic jangle, CRASHING THE ETHER may be Keene's finest effort since the high watermark of 1986's SONGS FROM THE FILM.
Keene recorded the album himself in his one-man studio (with help from drummer John Richardson), which accounts for CRASHING's meticulous, detail-rich quality. As usual, Keene's songs are memorable and substantive, exploring intriguing themes and featuring the artist's strong voice and even stronger guitar work (the latter in particular shines on this album). This one comes highly recommended to Keene fans and neophytes alike.

  • Critic Reviews
No Depression (p.119) - "[With] stunningly beautiful power-pop moments..."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.94) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "ETHER is marked by impressive tunefulness, unhindered by either irony or the sonic flights of fancy that plague so much modern powerpop -- a genre of which Keene remains the undisputed master."
