One thing that Ozzfest certainly accomplished was that it showed annual metal festivals could thrive in the U.S. (something that had been regularly occurring for decades in Europe). As a result, many bands took notice, which led to several other similarly styled traveling road shows, including the Megadeth-created Gigantour. Since 2005, the tour has been headlined by (take a guess) Megadeth, with lineups comprised of seemingly more underground metal acts than Ozzfest, as well as veteran acts that never toured as part of Ozzfest (Dream Theater, Overkill, etc.). Gigantour, Vol. 2 was released as both a CD and a companion DVD in 2008. The CD contains a mixture of metal acts old (Overkill, Megadeth) and new (Arch Enemy, Lamb of God). And instead of including renditions of classics by the better-known acts, the "lesser known" are focused on, as evidenced by Megadeth's "Take No Prisoners," Overkill's "Long Time Dying," etc. (although a "hidden track" proves to be none other than Megadeth's classic "Peace Sells"). Overall, Gigantour, Vol. 2 is a fitting sampler of your average Gigantour gig. ~ Greg Prato
