Collectables' Great Men of Rock & Roll: The 70s rounds up 23 songs from the archives of EMI and the labels under its umbrella, such as Hi, Capitol, and Philly International. The songs are all by men -- some great, and some pretty marginal. Either way, the songs themselves are mostly classics from all across the board, including new wave from the Knack ("My Sharona"), AM pop from Blue Swede ("Hooked On a Feeling") and Pilot ("Magic"), smooth soul from the O'Jays ("Use ta Be My Girl"), glam from the Sweet ("Ballroom Blitz"), soft rock from Michael Johnson ("Bluer Than Blue"), and more. It misses out on punk and AOR (except for a track by Grand Funk Railroad), but covers enough territory for the casual fan who just wants a feel for the music of the '70s. ~ Tim Sendra
