For their seventh album and third since their 2004 reformation on Secretly Canadian, Windsor for the Derby continued their transformation from post-rock experimentalists to a melody driven, indie rock band--albeit one with a firm minimalist bent. The Brooklyn-by-way-of-Austin quartet finds the common ground between Philip Glass, Psychic TV, and early New Order with a recipe of pop songs that unfold patiently over several minutes and contain spacious arrangements where slight instrumental changes such as keyboard runs, arpeggiated guitar lines, or shifting drum accents feel monumental.

  • Critic Reviews
Spin (p.119) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Melodic, melancholy crunch is the veteran Philadelphia-based act's aesthetic, and their eighth outing is sticky with the influence of Pavement, Yo La Tengo, and Sonic Youth."
CMJ - "At times the drums are expansive, the vocals vivid and dripping in reverb, and the recording quality polished....They continue to release music that is a subtle and gentle reflection on days gone by."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.105) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "This compelling and subtle mood music washes from the speakers like the unexpected child of FActory Records circa 1984 and The Beach Boys."
