This Seattle-via-South Carolina screamo outfit has been plying its trade since the early '00s. Nearly a decade after its inception, the band released IN SHALLOW SEAS WE SAIL, as polished and well-executed a mainstream hardcore record one is likely to find. The band have the screamo/metalcore formula down perfectly: scorched-earth vocals trade off with more tender singing, while pop guitar licks vie for space with thick crunchy metal riffs, all the while a seasoned rhythm section guides the whole affair through the many compositional stops, starts, ups, and downs. All the band members identify themselves as devout Christians, yet the lyrics here are more concerned with general philosophical notions of faith and devotion rather than outright proselytizing, thus ensuring a broader audience than many other Christian hardcore acts.

  • Critic Reviews
Alternative Press (p.126) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "Emery's prowess at transitions emerges as their most exciting calling card, with the urgency augmented by keyboard driven interludes, then imploded by anvil-heavy melodi-metal thuds."
Billboard (p.36) - "The band still gives itself over completely as it navigates softer pop shores, then dashes itself against brutal rock on 'Inside Our Skin,' 'The Poor and the Prevalent' adn the plucky, jagged 'Churches and Serial Killers.'"
