  • Credits

Trader Horne: Jackie McAuley (vocals, guitar, flute, piano, harpsichord, organ, congas) Judy Dyble (vocals, autoharp, piano); Ray Elliot (alto flute, bass clarinet); Joe Godfrey (bass); Andy White (drums).
Judy Dyble sang with a pre-Sandy Denny Fairport Convention, and instrumentalist Jackie McAuley played briefly with Them. Together, they released just this one album in 1970, which did not create much excitement at the time. Years later, record collectors began clamoring for the hard-to-find release, which in retrospect had gained a reputation as a decent offering of baroque, wispy British folk. Though not groundbreaking, the album, available now as a CD, is a delightful listen, and will appeal to any fan of castle-and-tapestry folk and twee acoustic balladry.

  • Critic Reviews
Q (4/01, p.128) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...The late-'60s mix of JRR Tolkien and LSD was always a pretty lethal cocktail....But if you can stomach the whimsy there are some genuinely pretty tunes here..."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.73) - "[W]himsical, sinister and bittersweet....furnished with harpsichords, auto-harp and celeste."
Mojo (Publisher) (6/01, p.153) - "...Keyboardist Jackie McAuley's intricate arrangements come on like a prettier Pentangle. Perhaps a little twee for some tastes, but the intricate melodic pull of [her] compositions, not to mention singer Judy Dyble's enchanting title track, rewards repeated listening."
