With their brutal electronic rhythms and harsh German-language lyrics, D.A.F. (Deutsche-Amerikanische Freundschaft) were largely a cult item throughout their, brief, initial incarnation in the early `80s. While the group's hard-edged sound was hugely influential for the coming wave of Industrial and E.B.M. artists, commercial and critical success largely eluded the band. DAS BESTE VON DAF, a useful recap of D.A.F.'s creative peak (between 1979 and 1984), contains two of their essential songs, the motorik "Sex Unter Wasser" and "Der Mussolini," a tongue-in-cheek jab at fascism with a driving, jackhammer beat.
