1-2-3-4 Go!'s We'll Inherit the Earth: A Tribute to the Replacements collects 23 classic tracks played by a myriad of D.I.Y. indie rock acts. The Replacements inspired brand of alcohol-fueled bar-rock isn't really that hard to capture, especially when the bands involved don't stray too far from the basic instrumentation that produced the songs in the first place. For the most part, the majority of the groups (Ergs, Off with Their Head, Druglords of the Avenues, Drunken Boat and Urchin) turn the Replacements' finer moments into late-'70s punk anthems, and while this is not necessarily bad, it doesn't warrant more than a spin or two before the listener is compelled to just go ahead and break out the originals. ~ James Christopher Monger

  • Critic Reviews
Alternative Press (p.186) - "This tribute takes its title from late-period Replacements, but its slop-rock spirit comes straight from the golden age, when Paul Westerberg's lyrical genius came wrapped in the reckless abandon of misspent youth."
