  • Marathon Music & Video presents a sprawling compilation of western movies, individually described below:

ONE EYED JACKS (1961) - Marlon Brando's only directorial effort also features one of his most remarkable performances. It's the Old West of 1880, and Kid Rio (Brando) and his partner, Dad Longworth (Karl Malden), rob a Mexican bank. Longworth gets away, purposely allowing the Kid to get caught and imprisoned. Finally escaping five years later, the Kid seeks revenge but is astonished to find Longworth married with a stepdaughter--and serving as the sheriff of a town. Matters worsen dramatically when the Kid falls in love with the stepdaughter. Slim Pickens appears in a memorable supporting role as a villainous lawman in this classic masterpiece, arguably one of the two or three finest westerns ever made, and certainly one of the most flamboyantly entertaining.

RAGE AT DAWN (1955) - Special agent James Barlow (Randolph Scott) goes undercover as a train robber in order to become a member of the infamous Reno brothers' gang of crooks. Once inside, the situation takes an unexpected turn when he falls for their sister (Mala Powers) and takes a liking to their leader (Forrest Tucker). He soon discovers the gang's ways of getting around the law: "legal loopholes" and political bribery. Edgar Buchanan and Denver Pyle play supporting roles.

VENGEANCE VALLEY (1951) - Burt Lancaster portrays a ranch foreman who continually battles his wayward brother (Robert Walker) in this melodramatic tale of the western range. Joanne Dru, John Ireland, and Hugh O'Brien also appear in supporting roles.

THE SHOOTING (1967) - Jack Nicholson and Warren Oates play two bounty hunters squared off against each other as they cross a bleak terrain in this existential classic. Will Hutchins (SUGARFOOT) also delivers a sensitive performance as a cowboy in the midst of a nervous breakdown.

THE OVER-THE-HILL GANG (1969) - A superb cast of some of the greatest character actors ever assembled in one film bring this western comedy about an elderly Texas Ranger (Pat O'Brien) and his three cohorts (Walter Brennan, Edgar Buchanan, and Chill Wills) to life, as they face off against the drunken local judge (Andy Devine) and gunslinging sheriff (Jack Elam).

THEY CALL ME TRINITY (1971) - Terence Hill plays an unlikely hero in this highly regarded spaghetti western, which spawned a sequel the following year.
