  • Director Sebastian Cordero (RAGE, PESCADOR) follows a team of intrepid space explorers to one of Jupiter's moons on a mission to investigate evidence of a subterranean ocean that could contain single-celled life in this ambitious sci-fi thriller produced in collaboration with NASA. Determined to explore the possibility that the oceans of Europa could harbor primitive life, a privately funded firm called Europa Ventures assembles six of planet Earth's best astronauts, and sends them deeper into the stars than any human has ever traveled. Should they succeed in reaching their destination and collecting crucial data, mankind could finally have an answer to the age-old question of whether or not we're alone in the universe. In the wake of a frightening technological failure that cuts off all communications with Earth and an unexpected loss that shakes the crew to their very core, the brave astronauts battle physical fatigue and psychological distress before arriving on Europa and making a discovery that could revolutionize our view of the universe -- if they manage to survive the trip back home to tell their incredible story. Sharlto Copley, Michael Nyqvist, and Christian Camargo star.

  • Critic Reviews
"This found-footage tale of astronauts searching for signs of life near Jupiter is a reasonably plausible and impressively controlled achievement."
    Variety

"[I]ts great strength is how striking it is visually and the stratagems it employs to make itself memorable."
    Los Angeles Times

"A lot of resourceful and thoughtful work has gone into this film..."
    Wall Street Journal

"Cordero has meticulously shaped a number of sci-fi clichs -- from the botched spacewalk to the communications breakdown -- into a wondering contemplation of our place in the universe."
    New York Times

3 stars out of 4 -- "The beauty of Ecuadorian director Sebastian Cordero's film is the simplicity of its approach."
    RogerEbert.com

"The spirit of Kubrick looms large herenot just in the basic plot architecture, but also in the eerie stillness of the compositions, the balletic motion of model machinery, and the majestic swell of Bear McCrearys score."
    A.V. Club

"[T]he heart of the story is in the interiors, and Cordero uses split-screen techniques and skillful editing to sustain energy."
    Hollywood Reporter
