  • The confidante of Russia's last tsar and tsarina, Grigori Rasputin was known as the "mad monk" for his wild eyes and even wilder ways. Although he called himself a man of God and a healer, Rasputin drank to excess, had many lovers, and lived a life of decadence. He was accepted into the royal household for supposedly cleansing the prince of hemophilia. Rasputin's erratic behavior and increasing power, however, led to an insurrection and to Rasputin's murder, during which his attackers had to poison, shoot, and drown him before he finally died. This A&E Biography examines the life and odd charisma of this enigmatic character, including the strange attraction he had for the tsarina, Alexandra, with whom it is likely he was conducting an affair. Rare photos and expert accounts trace the bizarre, scandal-ridden life of this shadowy historical figure.
