  • Under-appreciated upon its release in 1968, PRETTY POISON, based on Stephen Geller's novel SHE LET HIM CONTINUE, is a black comedy thriller that uses the talents of its stars to the utmost effect. Kittenish seductress Tuesday Weld plays Sue Ann, an apple-pie high schooler who is lured from her regular life by recently released mental patient Dennis Pitt (PHYCHO's Anthony Perkins). He tells the girl he is a C.I.A. agent and invites her to join him, a fantasy which she is all too happy to buy, and they take off together in now-classic style, making sure to kill her mother first. The film maintains uncertainty about who is manipulating whom, with jet-black humor played to subtle perfection by the two excellent leads.
