H2O's third album, F.T.T.W. (Finally Taste the Water), builds on the hardcore punk style the group established with the preceding Thicker Than Water, with lightning-quick tempos and pummeling guitar and drum work. The lyrics still tend toward the personal and introspective, although not exclusively. The blinding assault of the band tends to obscure periodic songwriting deficiencies, so even if the album isn't a great leap forward, it will satisfy fans of both the group and the genre. ~ Steve Huey

  • Critic Reviews
Alternative Press (8/99, pp.76-7) - 3 (out of 5) - "...It's difficult to tell where the punk ends and the hardcore starts...on [F.T.T.W.]....H2O's energy and conviction will please kids in both...camps..."
CMJ (5/31/99, p.5) - "...F.T.T.W continues the HC tradition of crew shout-outs and spiffy riffs, but the band sounds so refreshed and re-energized that it's as though the members regrouped at a spa before recording with ex-Bad Religionite...Brett Gurewitz..."
New Music Monthly (7/99, p.50) - "...a collection of jolly, feel-good music....easy to relate to, thriving on lyrics that speak universally about hard times, good feelings, learning lessons and staying strong. As soon as you hit play, H20 thrusts you in..."
Guitar Magazine (7/99, p.100) - "...[F.T.T.W.'s] superball melodies will be bouncing in your head endlessly....immaculate, high db, high energy high-on-life sock to the kisser..."
