La Vienta: Stefan Schyga (acoustic guitar, viola), Mario Otero (acoustic & electric guitar).
Additional personnel includes: John Crosse (saxophone, flute), Skip Konte (piano), Ruben Gutierrez (keyboards), Jimmy Johnson, Ken Wild (bass), John Ferraro (drums), Luis Conte (percussion).
Recorded at SoundCastle, Los Angeles, California and Front Page Studios, Costa Mesa, California between February 28 and April 9, 1994.
Building upon the foundation laid with their debut, Jazzmenco, la Vienta expands their jazzy flamenco sound by increasing the volume and letting their pop/rock influences show through. From the opening tracks of "The Journey" and the exuberant "Love for Isabel," the feeling of Night Dance is more upbeat and melodic than its predecessor. The duo even rocks out a bit as an electric guitar highlights the jam "Beto's Turn," helping to move away from the new age trap they could have easily fallen into; but what makes this set superior to their first is the fact that the songwriting is more lyrical and focused. Night Dance is a positive step forward for these two talented guitarists. ~ Aaron Latham
