This double album collects two live sets by the big band led by the U.K. bassist and composer Graham Collier, one recorded in the late 1960s and the other some eight years later in Belgium. Collier's compositions, which blend open-ended improvisation and written arrangements, are a compelling mix of Charles Mingus and Gil Evans-influenced jazz.

  • Critic Reviews
The Wire (p.74) - "[A] wonderful cross-section of British talent, Harry Beckett sublime on trumpet and flugelhorn, but with fine showings from the lesser known Dave Aaron as well."
Down Beat (p.77) - 3.5 stars out of 5 - "Ten-minute 'Part Two' is exhilarating; quiet or raging flare-ups of Kenny Wheeler's trumpet, Harry Beckett's flugelhorn and Henry Lowther's cornet celebrate freedom of expression..."
JazzTimes (p.1997) - "The title suite alternates episodes of creative postbop writing with sections of solo and collective improvisations. There's plenty of imagination at play..."
